Blogging

I am a Social Media Idiot!

I’ve been using social media since the MySpace days. (By the way, did you know it’s still around? I just figured that out) I didn’t really know what I was doing back then; just copying and pasting things I thought were funny on my friends “wall”. Then, along with the rest of the world, I moved over to Facebook many years ago. I thought I was a Facebook pro. I knew how to do it, how to post funny things, or a picture of my dinner , or a new house project, or just complain about how hard my day was. But once I started this blog and created my own “Page” (not to be confused with my personal “wall”), I realized just how lost I am. Each day my brain hurts because I’m learning so much! And I am realizing it’s taking me HOURS to learn one or two things. Oh Facebook, don’t be so secretive. Just tell me what I need to do to boost my posts and get more people to “like” my page! You are making me feel very old.

Speaking of feeling old, HOW THE HECK DO YOU USE TWITTER?! I mean, I know how to tweet (I think). I know where the “retweet” button is, but I’m not sure why I should click on it. And when I do, what do I add to the tweet? How does this help me? How do I help others who are in a similar situation as me? And who can keep up with how many tweets there are? It never stops! Twitter- you make me feel so dumb! And man, what a TIME SUCK! But, people love it, so it’s obviously my problem!

Now, let’s talk about Pinterest. You guys- EVERYONE CAN PIN! And I would bet you all have a Pinterest board- even the men reading this! But moving from a personal Pinterest page where I posted pictures of food, holiday ideas, and cute hairstyles for years- to a business page is a nightmare! And it shouldn’t be! Apparently, I have to add the Yoast SEO plug in to my blog (ya, I don’t know what that is either), then go to the social tab and check “Add open graph meta data” (????????????) and then plug some new URL into my blog at the “header” page. *Mind Blown*. I have been putting this off for a while now because I just do not understand what the heck I am doing! All the blog posts I read tell me how “easy” this is. “There are no tricks to this” they say. But they also say that Pinterest is the way to boost my blog and get followers. They swear by it. And THAT IS STRESSING ME OUT! It can’t be that hard, can it?

I’m with ya, Kate! I didn’t even know I was supposed to do that part about the social tab and the graph meta data and all that! What?! I’ll get it one day. Ha. Thanks for sharing… glad I’m not alone.

I feel your pain! It has been a nightmare trying to get my head wrapped around all this “stuff” just to start a blog. They said it would be easy, at least that is what the tutorial stated. Now, I do agree uploading, installing, copy and paste, yes that’s easy….but the trying to learn wow! that is the hard part! I am learning on the job. ;0)

Right! All the articles say “easy”. There are some parts that are easy, but honestly- there is SO much to it. So much to learn. It’ll be easy at some point, right? 🙂
